Riga Zoo

Riga Zoo is a city-owned zoo in Riga. Birthdate of Zoo is 14. October, 1912. Riga Zoo is located in Mežaparks and it is the oldest zoo in Baltic states. Riga Zoo houses around 3000 zoo animals of nearly 500 species and is has 250-300,000 zoo visitors annually. Riga Zoo offers plenty of diversions for animal lovers and excellent collections of birds, insects, amphibians and grazing animals which can be seen. Riga zoo has some nice traditions. February is a Tropical monthin Riga zoo, in April there are bird days, in May there are family days, in July strongman R.Bergmanis weighs Galapagos turtles, in August there skipjack days take place but in september are days of predators. At certain times during the summer, Riga zoo visitors can watch the animal feeding demonstrations.Since 1992, the Riga Zoo is the Zoo and Aquarium Association - EAZA (European Association of Zoos and Aquaria) member.
